Agenda: August 22nd until the 24th will be our busiest weekend yet
As the I AM not the MEdia team grows, so does the opportunities we have to help the community in different ways. On this friday, August 22nd, we will host a free Lunch and Learn Session at the ITT Technical Institute in Charlotte, NC, focussing on "Educating Teens Through Media Literacy". Our Guest Speaker for this event will be Dr. Kim Smith, an NC A&T Professor.
Kim Smith holds a PHD in mass communication from the University of South Carolina. An award winning journalist, Smith teaches courses in news writing, broadcast writing, multimedia, and how people of color are portrayed in the media. He recently developed a new course on how new media impact society.
Educators, Directors, Coordinators, After School Teachers and Community Organizers are more then welcome to join us. It will take place between 12:30 and 2pm. Register for this event through Eventbrite here.

On saturday, August 23rd, we will be all over Charlotte supporting other organizations, volunteering at events and promoting our work. Here is the full list of places where you will be able to find us:
1) Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
Organized by Safe Alliance, a local non-profit that combats Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse and provides shelter to its victims, the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes will start at 10 am at the NoDa Brewing Company. The idea is to have men walking a mile in heels, literally taking a walk in women's shoes.

2) Back to School
The annual Back to School event hosted by Our Foundation for Children, Inc. will take place on one of their headquarters, from 12 to 3 pm. Backpacks will be sold for 1 dollar for every student present. There will be activities for kids all ages, from face painting and hair styling to a bouncing ring.

3) Speak Out Youth Summit
Our very own Public Relations Director, Lillian Blanche, will be facilitating a workshop on the Speak Out Youth Summit at the UNC Charlotte Campus to discuss Teen Dating Violence Awareness. Teens will put together PSA's about the subject, while learning about how to use the media to speak their minds, create their own scripts and write affective PSA's. Their scripts will be videographed and edited by us.

4) 2014 West Fest
The I AM not the MEdia team will be at a booth at the 2014 West Fest spreading the word about media literacy, our organization and our workshops. There will be live performances, family fun, family games and inflatables. Its starts at 12 pm and ends at 6 pm.
