The organization has taken on the tag line "There's so much more than what you see..."
This statement sums up as a whole the approach that individuals should take when viewing the media. Hopefully there should be no mistake, the purpose of I AM not the MEdia is not to attack the media in any shape or form. The media has many positive purposes in today's society and the many advances that have been made with media related technology has created ample opportunities for our society to advance as a whole. The Internet and wave of social media has created many opportunities for businesses to expand, and individuals to network with a new approach towards virtual communication. Higher education institutions have tapped into utilizing the opportunities with social media and technology with the rapid increase in virtual learning providing greater opportunities for individuals to pursue a degree from prominent institutions within their own home office. The list goes on with the positives that the media has on advancing our society, but it would be socially irresponsible for us to ignore the increase in suicides and suicidal attempts from teens due to cyber bullying via social networks, the increase in the level of depression of young females due to poor self image and devalued self worth. It would also be socially irresponsible as a society for us to ignore the desensitization of violence, aggression and drug usage from young males in today's teen culture, as well as the increase in sexual activity, "sexting" and pornographic experimentation that has become a trend amongst teens with the advancements in video and photographic phone technology. These negative influences along with many others create the need for the existence of an organization such as I AM not the MEdia, Incorporated. "There's so much more than what you see" in the media, from the illusion of unobtainable and unrealistic beauty on magazine covers, the ironic depiction of "reality" from some reality television shows to the unbalanced negative display of entertainers. Do we as a society only want to embrace the negativity? Well this blog will challenge you to see the entirety of an individual by displaying and highlighting positive news and information regarding celebrities. This blog site is also geared towards shedding light on the augmented reality depicted by the media and challenges the minds of individuals to see the entirety of "The Message" that some how becomes distorted when filtered through TV networks, Internet servers and magazine covers. Check back weekly for new blogs from I AM not the MEdia, Inc. For more information regarding our organization, visit our website at http://www.iamnotthemedia.org/
